“real women have curves”

please, people of the world, stop saying this.

look, i get the idea of the message - our culture nowadays is so focused on the “ideal” stick thin model that women with curvaceous bodies aren’t always appreciated.  i guess it’s trying to promote acceptance, but in reality, when you say that, you’re just putting non-curvy women down the same way.  you’re not promoting tolerance by saying we should accept all body types, you’re bullying back.

say what you will, that it’s ‘easier’ being thin in this world and the curvy women are just trying to stick up for themselves.  but that doesn’t make it okay to put other people down.  i don’t have curves; my body is naturally thin and fairly shapeless.  does that mean i’m not a real woman?  because by saying ‘real women have curves,’ that’s what you’re implying.  and frankly, i’m offended.

maybe there could be some other sort of mantra to replace this hackneyed line.. one that’s a little more about appreciating all of the varieties in our figures?
