part-time athlete

snowboarding team is officially over for the season.

pros:

  • i have my weekends back
  • more time for studying
  • more time for running
  • field hockey season is starting

cons:

  • snowboarding season is over
  • snowboarding season is over
  • snowboarding season is over
  • snowboarding season is over
  • snowboarding season is over
  • snowboarding season is over

looks like the cons outweigh the pros.

oh hey check out me and my medals!
regionals in west virginia was an absolute blast.  while it was strange to travel 8 hours away towards the SOUTH to go snowboarding, the mountain wasn’t bad and the snow was actually pretty decent.
friday was gs, but half the day was spent in the lodge because there was lightning.  we had a dance party to pass the time and ended up being able to get one race run each (usually it’s combined time of two runs).  saturday was slopestyle which is always fun, though it was freezing cold and windy.  i love competing in slopestyle even though i’m not that good because i’ll try features i probably wouldn’t hit otherwise.
overall, our women’s snowboard team did pretty well.  we had two girls place individually, one got 2nd in slopestyle and the other got 2nd in gs.  overall, our team placed 3rd for gs and i’m sure we also placed in slopestyle but we’re still waiting to hear the team results for that.  we did get first in our individual conference for slopestyle for the season.  based on how we did there’s a chance we could get funding from our school to go to nationals which would be absolutely nuts.
it was also just a blast to hang out with my team for four days and bond like crazy.. not that we aren’t tight already.  plus it was great meeting and hanging out with teams from other conferences.  basically, i love snowboarding team.

sorry for my absence over the past few days..

i was in snowshoe, west virginia for uscsa regionals (where there was no wifi or cell service). i had an awesome time and our women’s snowboard team did really well. i’ll post a more thorough update when i’m back home! :)

so this is the arm of a kid on my snowboarding team after he crashed on a jump (and left some pieces of his bone on the landing).  12 screws later and he’s doing alright!  pretty gnarly, am i right?

unfffffff.

unfffffff.

gratuitous picture of yourself going out wearing your snowboarding race bib.

dear shaun white: i want to have your children.

fyi, i was just kidding about hidden valley being the sickest mountain on the east coast.  THIS IS THE ENTIRE TRAIL MAP.  of all these glorious trails, there were a grand total of 4 open, including the race courses.
spent most the day throwing snowballs and working on my goggle tan.

updates!

snowboarding training camp in killington: i got to reunite with some of my absolute favorite people for the first time in awhile, plus all of the new members on the team who are now also my favorite people.  overall the conditions were alright, but unfortunately our weekend race was moved to friday instead of saturday so we had to leave killington early.. just when it started dumping snow.  training itself was pretty lame the first day but much better the second when we had an instructor who was ridiculous both in the park and on the race course.. new inspiration.  as a side note, eating clean can be challenging when you’re rooming with 4 other girls, splitting all of the food and eating all the same meals.  i did what i could to stay healthy and fueled up for long days of riding

blue mountain this weekend: yesterday was grand slalom.  the conditions on the mountain were awful - it’s been so strangely warm this winter that it was raining the other day.. the mountain was basically a sheet of ice.  my race times were decent but official results aren’t out yet so i’m not sure how i placed overall.  i’m definitely looking to improve my racing over the course of the season.  today we did a rail jam for slopestyle and though results aren’t up yet i’m pretty sure i got second for women’s.  all day i felt great until i slid off a box and busted my knees on the second-to-last run of the day.. hoping i didn’t do anything too serious because i kinda need my knees.

right now: i’m watching a world’s strongest man competition.  holy shit these guys are ridiculous.  also icing my knees.

coming up: i haven’t been running lately because i’ve been snowboarding almost every day but i’ll be picking that up again soon, especially once classes start and i get into a routine.  also i’ll be getting back into hitting the weights and training classes.  i’ll be snowboarding and competing every weekend until late february so i’ll probably be talking a lot about that for the next couple months!

back from killington and onto blue mountain tomorrow

i’ll be back by sunday with updates i promise!

on my way to killington, vermont

for training camp with the snowboarding team!

i didn’t really queue anything up so i’ll be m.i.a. until thursday.
